What is a TPP?

What is a target product profile, and what is it good for? The HotBio students were introduced to the concept of a target product profile (TPP) by Dr. Matthias Baumann, head of in vivo pharmacology and target deconvolution at the Lead Discovery Center GmbH in Dortmund. In addition to a series of lectures given by Matthias, the students were given group assignments that gave practical insight in key aspects of a TPP and how such a document can be structured. In the final assignment the students generated their own TPPs for a hypothetical case. Even though the students in HotBio are not (yet?) running projects that are in the preclinical development phase, they found it very useful to learn more about the requirements for developing their hit compounds further.
